Bosch Rexroth is a global engineering and tech enterprise, a subsidiary of the Bosch Group, specializing in industrial automation, motion control, and drive technologies. They operate as one of the world’s leading suppliers of solutions for factory automation, mobile machinery, and industrial applications. The enterprise runs a collaborative Automation Community platform that serves as a hub for information exchange across the industrial ecosystem.

The challenge

For Bosch Rexroth, their Automation Community platform is the primary communication channel and knowledge base for customers, partners, and developers. It supports diverse content formats while ensuring users can easily navigate and find relevant information.

Such an active collaboration platform requires customer engagement and content management to be aligned in one place. As the community's knowledge grew, the platform’s interface, content capabilities, and user experience had to evolve accordingly. To support this growth, Bosch decided to migrate from its legacy content management system to a no-code platform, Bettermode.

The new CMS provided a stronger foundation, but added complexity and required to:

Ensure controlled, scalable website navigation and management
Bosch Rexroth needed to add dynamic features and design elements without tightly coupling them to the new platform. While all required functionality already existed, it was deeply embedded in the legacy system through older APIs and styled with a legacy CMS extension. This made them difficult to reuse. The challenge was to extract these features into standalone web components and make them usable at both the platform level and within content units.
Extend the internal team with skilled front-end engineers
The project required senior engineers with hands-on experience in web components development, including Stencil.js, GraphQL, and TypeScript. These skills were hard to source in-house quickly, so Bosch was looking for a trusted partner who could extend their team without delays.

Delivered value

Enrichment of CMS functionality
We expanded the capabilities of the Bettermode CMS beyond its native limitations, enabling the Community team to create more dynamic and engaging content. As a result, the client gained greater flexibility and consistency in design.
Clear navigation and better user experience
By enriching the CMS with custom components, we significantly improved the overall user experience of the Automation Community platform. The new CMS provided a cleaner structure and better navigation.
Two weeks from onboarding to delivery
We helped Bosch Rexroth Automation Community quickly close the critical skills gap by engaging a senior front-end engineer with proven expertise. The expert passed all technical interviews and was confirmed as a strong fit for the project’s requirements. Within two weeks, our expert was fully onboarded, began delivering tasks, and integrated seamlessly into the team.

Solution

For Bosch Rexroth Automation Community, we delivered a front-end solution based on web components, using Stencil.js, which enabled a scalable and reusable user interface. The website was built around Bettermode, a no-code CMS that introduced several limitations and demanded non-standard architectural decisions. To address them, we focused on extending CMS capabilities without relying on custom HTML or direct code injection.

To make the platform more dynamic and feature-rich, we introduced reusable components, such as:

  • Accordion. Built on the existing dc-ui-accordion component, it automatically detects and renders all accordion entries on a page, including their content and any embedded web components.
  • Application filters. The component reads filter parameters from the URL, resolves clear labels via the Bettermode CMS, and updates results in real time.
  • CtrlX OS Store Widget. It displays and integrates applications from the ctrlX OS ecosystem directly within the community, connecting content with relevant software offerings.

The solution operates fully within the client’s existing CMS environment and continues to evolve. Our cooperation is ongoing, with continuous improvements and new features being added to further enhance the platform.

Your excellent work in developing and enhancing the Bosch Rexroth Automation Community and the Application Catalogue for Factory Automation has been exceptional. Your ability to rapidly deliver high-quality, robust solutions was instrumental to our project's success. We look forward to our continued collaboration.

How it works

Improving user experience for Bosch Rexroth community platform - How it works - Lemberg Solutions
Application filters
The application filters show which filters are currently applied and let users easily refine their selection and find relevant applications and content.
Dark mode
The dark mode was implemented at the client’s request to maintain visual consistency with the main ctrlX OS website and to enhance usability in low-light conditions.
Tool widgets
Tool widgets embed interactive tools or utilities into content pages, enabling users to access functionality without leaving the current context.
CtrlX OS Store Widget
The widget lets editors embed interactive ctrlX OS content directly into pages.
Breadcrumbs
Breadcrumbs show users where they are within the platform and make it easy to navigate back.
Accordion
The accordion presents content in collapsible sections so users can quickly scan topics and reveal details only when they need.
