The challenge

Most hospitals in Germany still rely on manual work when it comes to managing medical IoT devices. Consequently, medical staff spend hours searching for available devices, configuring them, and then documenting the procedure's outcomes — time that could be dedicated to patient care. To automate this process, Elixion Medical was looking for a reliable ISO-certified partner to develop a solution that would: 

Simplify the configuration of medical IoT devices
Instead of manually adjusting medical devices, medical staff could do it in seconds within a web platform.
Enable monitoring and managing patient orders in real-time
The system must give nurses and doctors instant access to each request’s status, reducing response times across departments.
Serve as a unified digital data hub
To make it easier for medical staff to find the information they need, the portal must aggregate patient and device data in one centralized place.

Solution

Lemberg Solutions team developed the web portal that securely connects to IoT medical devices and structures the mess around patient and treatment data in medical centers. 

During the discovery phase, we helped our client outline the concept of the final product. To determine all necessary features, our development team worked in close cooperation with healthcare professionals to get experience-based feedback. After that, our designers created mock-ups, and we proceeded to the development phase.

Initially, the goal was to connect the portal to an automated urinary catheter that our client was building. To ensure that everything works seamlessly, our engineers have joined Elixion Medical’s team to help them develop their catheter’s firmware. Also, from the start, we built the portal with scalability in mind. Its use cases are limitless, and the portal can be connected to any hospital devices. 

After the client completes development on their side, the portal and smart catheter device will be integrated into one of the hospital systems in Germany, with potential expansion to other healthcare facilities.

Secure login
To view active patient orders and scheduled procedures, medical staff must access the portal with their verified credentials.
Dashboard for managing patient examinations
After doctors or nurses take orders for processing, they can assign and transfer them between departments.
Device pairing & configuration
From the provided list, medical staff can select a device for the procedure and configure it using system hints, setting up thresholds, alerts, measurements, and frequency.
Live data display
Once activated, the device sends real-time data directly to the portal, providing insights into the procedure.
Real-time notifications of device requests
The portal alerts medical staff when the device requires attention, for example, a change of the urine bag. This request is displayed on the chart together with a timeline and patient metrics.
Records management and secure storage of patient data
​​​​The examination results are automatically synchronized with the portal, so nurses don’t need to write them down and hand them to the doctor.
